2004 Vintage
D.O. Ribera Del Duero Grapes: 100% Tempranillo Doncel de Mataperras 2004 is a highly expressive, red estate wine made with grapes from the bodegas oldest vines. It represents the personality, character and strength of Marques De Velilla wines. It is a wine made to be recorded with pride in the bodegas history. It is the fruit of painstaking work based on respect for the personality of the terroir; our prime goal.
Vintage: Rated as Excellent by the Control Board, this vintage was affected by hail storms which cut down the harvest by over 50%. Despite this setback, ensuing good weather allowed the harvesting of grapes in excellent health and ripeness. The 2004 vintage produced wines with a pure, strong character, direct and complex. It is a vintage for lovers of wines with precision, where everything is perfectly balanced and nothing is out of place. The quality of this vintage will be a surprise for all; the wine will not let you down if it is allowed to age for several years in the bottle. Ageing: The wine was aged in French and American barrels for 12 months, followed by a few months in wooden vats. It was then bottled and placed in racks until it reached its optimal evolution. Tasting Notes: Colour: Intense, cherry-red with a purple rim, almost opaque. Aromas: Powerful aromas of ripe, yet fresh, fruit with a great varietal expression and rich toasty and mineral notes. Palate: Meaty and ample, full of ripe, powerful tannins. Candied fruit, fresh and elegant notes and good varietal expression on the finish. Serving temperature: between 18ºC and 19ºC. The wine has not been subjected to any stabilisation treatments, so a small amount of sediment may appear in the bottle. Decanting recommended.
