2008 Vintage
Region: Barossa Valley Grape Variety: 100% Semillion Rolf Binder Winery The Veritas Winery was established in 1955 by Rolf Heinrich Binder. In 2005, on their 50th Anniversary, Veritas became Rolf Binder Wines. The winery tradition is now continued by sibling winemakers Rolf and Christa, who were jointly awarded Barossa Winemakers of the year 2005. Vintage The Barossa experienced a wet winter followed by ideal spring conditions. Rainfall was moderate to high producing strong growth and good fruit set after flowering. In mid to end of January the Barossa experienced extremely hot summer weather. This accelerated the ripening process. During February and March the conditions were generally milder thus allowing the grapes to complete their ripening process. Wine Making The wine comprises 100% Semillon from the Chri Ro Estate Vineyards in the Barossa Valley and the Western Ridge Vineyard in Marananga. The grapes are tank pressed in individual parcels. There is no skin contact. After crushing the juice undergoes controlled cool fermentation in stainless steel. A portion of each is fermented in new and one-year old American oak for 5 months. Final blending is followed by bottling in October 2006. Tasting Notes The wine has a pale straw colouration. This is a crisp well balanced wine with a nose of peach, citrus fruits and a hint of creamy oak. It has a crisp palate, of good length with lemon and lime crispness and hints of vanilla and nuts, with a clean finish. Cellaring: Good now, but could age for 2 to 5 years. Technical Information Harvested: at 12.3 degrees Baume on 1st of March . 2004 Christa Rolf Semillon - Winestar “This subtle and elegant Semillon has been sourced from the Veritas vineyard adjacent to the winery. Attention to detail throughout the year to the viticultural practices used and the cool vintage conditions has ensured the finesse of this wine. The restrained use of American oak, a small amount was fermented in oak barrels, has produced a wine showing both subtlety and style. There is a wonderful pale straw colour and bouquet of lemon blossom and floral tones, hints of nuts and vanilla. The toasty oak character flow over the palate accompanied by the fruit which all culminates with a crisp clean finish, however, the fruit flavour does linger to allow you to continue enjoying this elegant wine. Drink now or cellar for up to 5 years”.
