Luis Cañas Crianza 2006

Grape Variety: 95% Tempranillo 5% Garnacha

D.O.Ca.: Rioja

The harvest:

The 2006 harvest was rated as very good, with sufficient precipitation distributed throughout the cycle. August was dry and the weather was ideal with temperatures moderate by day and low by night. During the first days of September, high temperatures slowed the maturation so the grapes had to be picked selectively as they became fully ripe.

Vinification:

Upon entering the bodega and passing the selection table, the grapes are de-stemmed and crushed before undergoing fermentation and then maceration in stainless steel tanks for a total of 20 days, obtaining better colour extraction as well as much more complex and tannic wines, suitable for prolonged aging.

The Ageing:

After its primary fermentation, the wine is placed in barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged for a minimum of 12 months. It is then bottled and aged for another 12 months.

Tasting Notes:

Deep cherry red in colour with a clean nose with notes of balsalmic and fine nuances of plum and clean oak. On the palate the wine is smooth, with fruit and spice flavours with toasted oak. Complex and structured. A pleasant finish with red fruits and hints of balsamic.

Food Matches:

Ideal with meat paellas, roasted game and poultry, chorizo and other Spanish cured meats.
