2004 Vintage
D.O.Ca: Rioja Grapes: 80% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. Soil: Clay/Calcareous and Alluvial. Tasting notes: We managed to achieve a higher than normal degree of ripeness, which was reflected in the presence of riper fruit and the almost total disappearance of the floral character which is such a feature of this wine.
It was a year with harsh weather and big contrasts in conditions which were immediately transmitted to the wine, logically, in the shape of sharp, spiky tannins.
After nearly seven long years of smoothing out these have gradually been perfectly integrated, allowing us to discover a wide range of spicy aromas, which are slightly superimposed over those of the fruit, flanked by very fine, fresh hints of leather.
At this stage of the tasting what most surprises you is how the wine fills the whole of your mouth right from the initial attack, lingering for a few minutes after its passing.
The aftertaste and retronasal effect at first transmit even, powerful hints of fresh tobacco which then fade away to leave traces of spices such as cloves and black pepper.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the continuing evolution of this wine will go on storing up some fabulous sensations for us in the future.
