Grape Varieties: 40% Garnacha, 25% Syrah, remaining 35% Carignan, Cabernet and (tiny amount) Merlot
Mas Martinet is owned by Jose Luis Perez, one of the original Priorat pioneers. He has turned over day-to-day operations to his daughter Sara Perez, under whos direction the estate is rising to the pinnacle of excellence in Priorat.
There are two estate wines. Martinet Bru is the younger vine cuvée, super-fruity, approachable in its youth, and excellent value. Clos Martinet uses only the best parcels of vines to enusre consitently outstanding top quality wines.
The estate owns 10 hectares of vineyard planted in the famous llicorella Catalan soil (alternating layers of slate and quartz). Approximately 3000 cases are produced, 1500 of Martinet Bru and 1500 of Clos Martinet.
Ageing: aged for 17 months in oak barrels
Tasting notes: Black cherry in colour. Intense nose. Very spicy, fruity, with aromatic herbs. The mouth is filled with ripe fruit, brambles and herb characters, warm and fleshy. Good structure and persistent finish.
